Non Medication Treatments

While medication can be an effective way to manage ADHD symptoms, it's not the only option. A combination of treatments tailored to the individual often works best. The goal isn't to “cure” ADHD but to help individuals manage their symptoms in a way that allows them to live fulfilling lives.

Other Support Options for Managing ADHD

Behavioural Therapy:

Behavioural therapies use strategies to help improve focus, organisation, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often recommended to help individuals with ADHD manage negative thoughts and behaviours.

Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy can help individuals with ADHD explore emotional challenges, build self-esteem, develop coping strategies, and manage any co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression.

Parent Training and Education:

Parents can benefit from specialised training programs that teach practical strategies for managing behaviour at home, encouraging positive reinforcement, and supporting organisational skills.

Social Skills Training:

ADHD can impact social interactions. Social skills training helps children learn how to read social cues, communicate more effectively, and engage appropriately with peers and adults.

Lifestyle Changes:

Healthy daily routines can make a significant difference. Improving sleep habits, maintaining regular exercise, and following a balanced diet all contribute to better management of ADHD symptoms

School Support and Modifications:

In educational settings, children with ADHD may benefit from an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) or Individualised Learning Plan (ILP). These supports can include accommodations like extra time for tasks, modified assignments, or access to quieter workspaces.
